Viruses are made of proteins, and Viral protein 1 (VP-1) is the most prominent and important viral protein found in all Enteroviruses.
The ENTEROVIRUS PROTEIN 1 IMMUNOPEROXIDASE STAINING assay determines the presence of enterovirus protein in the stomach tissue or other types of tissues.
Dr. John Chia, at EV Med Research, can successfully perform the viral protein staining. Gastroenterologists who perform the endoscopies can send the tissue samples to California.
Below are magnified pictures of stained stomach tissue.
Biopsy #1 is from a healthy volunteer whose stomach contains no EV
Biopsy #2 is from an EV infected patient whose stomach contains many EV infected cells.
